Upgrading your power plan to fit your data center

Finding the appropriate power outage protection for your data centers could be difficult as your technology needs change. As necessary as it might be, moving onward to a new data center could require lots of planning. A recent CIO article cited one of the overlooked problems of modern digital upgrades: managing the old data center space after leaving it behind.

As the source points out, "moving up" doesn't happen all at once, and dealing with old space can pose problems. Even major companies have to contend with how they manage former resources as they buy new property. The article also notes that the old centers will be "undesirable" since they represent an increasingly obsolete resource.

Moving onto larger spaces can mean a greater burden on companies not used to heavy demands. TechRepublic recently spoke to Gartner analyst Mark Jaggers about the lack of recovery plans for small and midsize businesses. If these companies are already struggling, they may need to be wary as they upgrade.

"Planning and executing disaster recovery exercises is something that should be done on a regular basis to find out these issues before they may be impactful," Jaggers said. He specifically referenced a power outage that canceled around 1,150 Southwest Airlines flights. The source mentioned this in context with a similar case involving hundreds of Delta airlines flights. The effects reportedly included not just cancelation but delayed status updates.

With suitable power outage protection, companies can ensure their enterprise is suitable prepared for accidents and other issues. Whether large, medium, or small, businesses need a data center backup system that works for their size. Contact Custom Networks to learn more about the right power supply systems for you.
